Oops.
I’ve been neglecting Ye Olde Blog. Bad Gypsy!
And it’s not like I’ve been doing anything interesting that would keep me away from blogging. I’ve been working. Teaching yoga. Reading books for a children’s lit/film class I’m taking in July. Looking for stuff for my thesis. Playing the Sims way too much (but my Wolverine and Jean Grey Sims are married and expecting twins now!). Making graphics.
The thesis stuff is making me twitchy. I’m trying to refine my topic and find as many books and articles as I can, but there just isn’t a lot of academic work out there on superhero comics. Yes, I’m doing my thesis on X-Men. I’m either going to focus on Jean Grey or on the women of the X-Men, gender stereotypes, so on and so forth. I’m digging into stuff on film studies as well–women in action films, etc. I’ve got to get cracking and write my proposal so I can defend it in Summer II, then write the bloody thing in the fall.
I’m feeling like hammered dog poo today, though. I had some kind of stomach bug yesterday, and I had to teach yoga this morning. I think that sapped all of my energy. I want to crawl under my desk and take a long nap.
Let’s see… interesting stuff that’s coming up. The Rogues are playing in Fort Worth on 14 July. I’m going with Andi and my Wenchie, and we’re all excited. It’s Andi’s first time to see the guys; I hope Nelson, one of the drummers, can make it.
We’re also planning our yearly trip to the Texas Renaissance Festival, and I’m ridiculously excited. We’re going in mid-November, partly because it’s after my birthday and partly because it’s more likely to be cool then. I’d like to piece together a few more bits for my garb, and I’d love to get a cloak, but who knows if that’ll happen. They’re usually too expensive for this poor college gal.
I’ve been on a BPAL binge lately. I finally have some disposable income, so I blew it on imps (perfume sample vials). Today, I’m wearing Talvikuu (Skeletal limbs of birch and fir coated in a thick, impenetrable blanket of snow. This is the death of the year personified.), which smells utterly delicious on me, just like a frozen evergreen forest. I can’t wait to get the new stuff.
It’s ridiculously hot here, too. I hate Texas summers. You’d think I’d be used to them by now, considering that I’ve lived 22 of my 26 years in this godforsaken state, but I still wilt every time June rolls around, and I don’t revive until at least November. I lived in Germany for almost four years, and I think that’s my kind of climate. It was cool and rainy, and the autumns were fantastic. Autumn in Texas is a big joke. I need to move to New England or the Pacific Northwest or something. I should start looking for grad schools in those areas.

Congrats on the Wolverine/Jean Grey babies. When they come along remember to keep their claws clipped regularly. They can be so freaking sharp when they’re little!
