FREEEEDOM!
YAY, classes are over! Two weeks of freedom! [does a jig]
I finished up The Amber Spyglass by Phillip Pullman, the last book in the His Dark Materials trilogy, last night. I’m… having mixed feelings. I enjoyed it very much, but I feel like some of the plot threads weren’t followed. I might just need to go back and re-read parts, but I can’t figure out, for example, what the hell happened to The Authority.
It made me cry, though. [sniffle]
And film versions of the books are apparently in the works, with Paul Bettany as Lord Asriel and Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Coulter. I’m not exactly sure how I feel about that casting. I mean, I like them both, but I’m not sure I can picture them in those roles. Eva Green, from Kingdom of Heaven and the upcoming Bond film, Casino Royale, has been cast as Serafina Pekkala, and I have to say I’m very pleased about that. I like her a lot, and she has the right kind of look to play the witch.
Next on the reading agenda? Probably Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere. It’s on my comfort reading list.

I have The Amber Spyglass sitting here next to my bed waiting to be finished. It saddens me to think about finishing it. :(
I’ve heard lots of mixed reactions to the ending, so I’m curious to see what I’ll think of it. Nicole Kidman is a big surprise for Mrs. Coulter. Hmm. Serafina Pekkala is probably my favorite character.
Wanna get together Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday to do the Tom Hollander site? I’m housesitting for Susan, so I’ll be in the ‘Merce all day and night those days. If another time is better lemme know.

Yeah, I really liked Serafina Pekkala. The witches were awesome.
And I want a dæmon.

I haven’t read the third book yet, but I have read the other two. I thought Nicole Kidman was really good casting for Mrs Coulter. Not sure about Paul Bettany though.

Hi, Marg. :) The more I think about it, the more I think Kidman could play Mrs. Coulter well. I think she could definitely take on the coldness and coyness that Mrs. Coulter has in spades. As for Bettany, I’ve only really seen him in Master & Commander, so I can’t even begin to imagine him as Lord Asriel. He’s stuck as Stephen Maturin in my head.
